In 2011, the Community School of the Arts was awarded a gift from the Paul C and Gladys Richards Foundation to create an advanced program of intensive chamber music study for pre-college students at the University of Connecticut. This program provides opportunities for talented pre-college students to work directly alongside undergraduate and graduate music students training for careers in music performance and education in rare, yet valuable chamber music experiences.
These chamber ensembles are coached by the Chamber Music Faculty of the UConn Department of Music and the Community School of the Arts. Pre-college students also receive academic training in musicianship and music theory as part of the program.
In the Fall 2011 semester, eighteen talented pre-college students passed audition requirements to be placed in the program. They were assigned a chamber ensemble with one of six UConn student interns and were coached on a weekly bases by the UConn chamber music faculty.
